This work, carried out as a design prospective, comes back on the notion of programmed obsolescence of the manufactured object and the doctrine of economist Joseph A. Schumpeter who is at its origin: the creative destruction. The evolutionist precept, warrant of the economic growth, is here pushed to the extreme and reversed to evoke a destructive creation which experiences Schumpeter’s oxymora and illustrates the social dereliction to which it leads, distinguishing then technical progress from “moral” progress.
A rhizomic installation expresses the trails of evolution from the telephone booth, outdated object, replaced for 15 years by the cellphone – emblem of the creative destruction, subject more than anything else to the technological gadgetization and fashion fluctuation, and symptom of the shift from public to private and collective to individual.
Deduced from usages, sometime illicit, that are made of the telephone booth, the improbable sophistication prescribe a new usage value of this object inviting its destruction. It becomes then a free expression mount, isolation booth, steam-venting or patrimonial object.
