PAYSAGE SOUS SURVEILLANCE, 2011

photographic series
C-Print under glass 60x90cm

-----------

Reference to the eponym text of Heiner Müller, Paysage sous surveillance is a series of 20 photographs taken on the road, assembled in polyptychs of 4 images which evokes the splits screens of control monitors and video surveillance. The surveillance invoked here isn’t the one of automated cameras of the highway keeping watch on the traffic, but the ones acting on the landscape, from the road, by its users.

Similar to the ones children mechanically capture in a retinal zapping to occupy their eyes, these images appear as a succession of paintings without subjects in which nothing stands out, other than a few recurring set elements which seem to event. These panoramas, repetitive and boring, from which the observation is marked and limited by guardrails, ar given here as afterimages of vigils on a walkway, point of view disaffected on a reduced landscape with a predictable construction.
